God loves
us individually, and has a liking for groups. He chose Israel to
be His people. Jesus gathered a group of disciples to be with Him.
Heaven is described as a large wedding feast, or a holy city and
not one isolated person, however pure and lovely. We receive a
child into our covenant community through the act of baptism before
the whole c1urch. We celebrate communion with Jesus Christ and
with one another through breaking bread and passing cups of juice. As a church, we meet
as pilgrims of the Christian faith. We are bound together by God's
love, and together rejoice in the freedom from sin we have through
Jesus Christ. We discover the sweet, small voice of the Holy Spirit
in our singing together, praying together, studying together and
serving together.
Presbyterians are sometimes
admired for the manner in which our church is organized. Individual
gifts and talents are shared in a variety of way within the church
family and in the broader community. As we follow Jesus day by day,
year after year, we discover we are growing in our love for one another
and our neighbors. Because we believe that to be more loving is to
be more like Christ, this is the answer to the question, "Why
are we?" |
