First Presbyterian Church
of Huron,
maintains our own short list of mission causes to which we directly
contribute. The Nurture and Mission Committee have the delightful task
of giving away certain monies to causes and agencies deserving of the
support of this church. These mission causes includ,
but are not limited to, Bread for the World, Berea Children's
Home, Huron Dial-a-Ride, Medical Benevolence Foundation (PCUSA
approved), Safe Harbor Shelter (Sandusky), Menaul School in Albuquerque,
New Mexico (PCUSA approved), Buckhorn of Ohio (Presbyterian foster
care facility), Care and Share (Affiliated with First Presbyterian
Church, Sandusky), and Habitat for Humanity. In addition, community
groups such as AA, Al-a-Non, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts,
and Habitat for Humanity may be found meeting in one room
in the building or another as their program schedule requires.
This gift of a safe and comfortable space in which to meet
in support, to plan camping trips and work towards merit
badges, to envision a different future that includes owning
a home is the institution of the church serving Jesus Christ
as a good neighbor to other institutions.
Countless hours of community
service and volunteer work are given by many, many members
of the congregation as an outward expression of their inner
faith. To be a good Presbyterian requires that you be a
Christian, and a good citizen. These uncounted, invisible
hours of mission work in town strengthen the quality of
Huron's civic life. |
